Djouma

Djouma has such a sweet smile. You would never suspect the suffering she has already faced in her young life. Djouma was born in 2013 in a small village in West Africa. Her mother became very sick and died a few years ago. She lives with her father who never remarried. He cares for her with the help of his extended family.

Their home is a simple mud brick structure with a tin roof. They sleep on thin mats on the dirt floor. There is no running water nor electricity. Like most others in the region Djouma’s family grows their own food. The principal crop is corn which is used to make “To“,the traditional African food eaten every day.

This year (2023-2024) Djouma is in 5th grade. Her father makes it a priority to keep her in school but struggles to pay her school fees. He knows his daughter will have better opportunities in life if she can receive an education. When he does not have a good harvest, his money goes to buying food. Djouma worries that he will not be able to pay her tuition. Djouma dreams of finding a sponsor to help her and her family. Could you be the one to make her dreams come true?

Having a sponsor means that her tuition would be paid for and school supplies purchased. Basic medical care would be provided. Her family would receive distributions of 100 pounds of rice and other practical items twice a year. Moreover, Djouma would know the love having a sponsor would bring. Is there room in your heart to share with this deserving girl?
