Djouma was born in 1967 and has faced many challenges while raising her family of five children in a remote West African village. She faithfully hauled water from the village well, worked in the family fields, and cared for her household. Today, much of her time is spent caring for her aging husband. Although she can no longer work in the fields herself, she continues to serve her family by preparing meals and helping care for the children in her extended family while others labor in the fields.
