Tony & Isabelle Covarrubias
In November 2019, my wife Isabelle and I (Tony), along with our two children, Graciella and Jakim, took a leap of faith and moved to West Africa. We had fulfilling careers and a wonderful church community in Omaha, Nebraska, but for years, God had placed a call on our hearts to move to West Africa. For a long time, we wrestled with this calling, unsure of when or how to make the move. Then, in September 2019, the Lord made it unmistakably clear that the time had come—He had work for us to do there.
We quit our jobs, shipped our belongings, rented out our house, and followed His lead. Upon arriving in West Africa, we were unsure of the exact reason for our calling and continued to pray for guidance. Shortly after, we met Don and Janet, who introduced us to the Oasis of Hope ministry. I vividly remember meeting Don in a restaurant as he shared the heart of their mission—feeding malnourished babies, providing medical care to sick infants, and empowering women through self-employment training. It resonated deeply with us.
We knew then that this was why God had called us to West Africa. Volunteering with Oasis of Hope confirmed that conviction, and in time, we felt led to become missionaries with Sheltering Wings. As of July 2024, we are now entrusted with leading the Oasis of Hope ministry, continuing the work God began through Don and Janet Guizzetti
