Siesoma
Siesoma was born in 2004. Her father has passed away, and she, her mother, and her siblings now live with the family of her father’s younger brother. They make their home in a small village in West Africa. Most families cultivate the land for a living. Corn, beans, rice, and peanuts are the dominant crops, while some farmers grow cotton and sesame as cash crops. The climate is harsh, and during times of drought crops often fail, leaving families vulnerable. Homes in the village are built from mud bricks and topped with thatched roofs. During heavy rains these houses can sometimes collapse. The extremes of drought and rain are a constant concern for families in the region. There is neither electricity nor running water in the village. Women cook over open fires in the family courtyard. Like many girls her age, Siesoma carries many responsibilities. She gathers wood, fetches water from the well, does laundry, works in the family fields, and helps care for younger children. Despite these challenges, Siesoma’s family has kept her in school. This year (2025–2026) she is in the thirteenth grade, the final year of high school. Siesoma has great potential and dreams of receiving a college education. Would you be willing to sponsor her and help her achieve this dream?
