This young girl is Rokia. Her mother and father were not married at the time of her birth. Her father left. Her mother has since married and has three more children. Rokia is the eldest child. She and her family live in a remote village in West Africa. There is no electricity or running water. Her family grows corn, rice and peanuts. Rokia helps her family by caring for the younger children doing laundry and helping in the fields. This year (2025- 2026) Rokia is in the twelfth grade. She loves going to school and knows attending school is a privilege. Many of her friends do not attend school. She hopes she will be able to stay in school but it is never guaranteed. Rokia is hoping for a sponsor. Having a sponsor would mean her tuition would be paid. Sponsorship also pays for school supplies and provides emergency medical care. Twice yearly her family would receive a sack of rice and other needed items.
