Rahim was born on September 26, 2009.  He is the oldest of 4 children.  Rahim contracted an illness as an infant, possibly meningitis, and ran a very high fever for several days.  Shortly afterwards, his mother noticed that Rahim was losing his hearing.

Rahim is from a small town where there is very little opportunity for hearing impaired children.  He did attend a small school but the funding was inadequate and he was not progressing well.  His mother heard about a residential school for the hearing impaired in a larger city and has made every effort to keep Rahim enrolled in this school.  Rahim has a younger sister who is also hearing impaired and both of these children are enrolled in this special school.

This year (2024 - 2025), Rahim is in the 4th grade.

Rahim’s mother does everything that she can to keep her children in school.  She sells vegetables at the side of the road, she goes door to door offering to do laundry, and she sells cold water in the hot season to weary travelers.  Rahim’s father is unemployed and has searched diligently for work without success.
