Oumou is a bright and determined fifth-grader (2025-26) living in a small community with her mother and four siblings. Although she comes from a Muslim family and her father is still alive, she does not live with him. Life at home can be challenging, as there is no running water or electricity, and the nearest well is about a kilometer away. Every morning, Oumou walks the same distance to school, as she doesn’t have a bicycle, and only one of her siblings is able to join her in getting an education. Despite these hardships, she is grateful for the opportunity to go to school and especially enjoys her French class.

After school, Oumou enjoys playing hide and seek with friends, studying, or helping her mother with chores around their home. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day, inspired by the power of education to change lives. Oumou’s gentle spirit and perseverance shine through, and with the support of a Christian sponsor, she can continue to pursue her education and help lift her family toward a brighter future.
