Mathieu was born on Jan 8, 2000.  His father died in 2013, leaving his mother, an older brother, and a younger sister.  All three of the children are in school, which is a rare thing here.  Mathieu's mother has worked hard to keep her children in school.  

Mathieu's mother and siblings farm for a living.  During the summer vacation from school, the family plants cotton, corn, peanuts, beans, and millet.  During the dry season, his mother sells vegetables and fruit at the local market.  This helps to supplement their family income.

The family lives on a small parcel of land, in a small house that Mathieu's father bought and built.  Although it is very difficult without their father, he planned and prepared for them by providing this house.

Mathieu is in his 4th year of university this year (2025 – 2026).  He is a good student.  He is a bright and engaging boy who easily breaks into a smile.
