Marcel was born in 2013 in a small village in West Africa. He has the same hopes and dreams as many boys his age. However, he has faced monumental challenges in his short life. Both of his parents have already died. He is now in the care of extended family. He lives in a house made of mud bricks. There is no electricity or running water. His family are farmers. Their main crop is corn. Food insecurity is a real issue. Sufficient rains mean there will be enough food until the next harvest. The reality is that is not always the case. A bright spot in Marcel's life is going to school. This year (2025-2026) he is in seventh grade. Marcel hopes the will be able to stay in school. Families often are not able to pay school fees, however. Marcel is hoping to find a sponsor. Child sponsorship covers school fees, school supplies, basic medical care and a twice- yearly gift of 100 pounds of rice and other necessary items.
