Elysee Kouda is a joyful fourth grader (2025-26) who lives with his grandmother. Born in 2015, Elysee lost his mother at a young age, and like many children in his culture, moved to live with his grandmother while his father remained nearby. Though she has no job, Elysee’s grandmother keeps a small farm that provides food during the rainy season, and together they rely on their faith to guide them through each day. Their home doesn’t have running water or electricity, but the well is just 300 meters away, making it easier for Elysee to help fetch water for his family.

Despite the challenges, Elysee is dedicated to his education and walks about three kilometers to school every morning. His favorite subject is French, and he dreams of working at a store when he grows up. Elysee comes from a Christian family, and his love for God shines through in his kindness and willingness to help clean his grandmother’s courtyard. When he isn’t studying or working, Elysee enjoys playing soccer with his friends, finding joy in both simple moments and the promise of a brighter future.
