Dessa was born in 2008. This year (2024-2025) she is in the 9th grade. She lives in a small farming community in southwest Burkina with her mother and father. There are 9 children in the family and Dessa is the 6th child in her family. Dessa’s father is not well. He is aging and has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. He also is paralyzed and cannot walk. The family lives in a small mud-brick house in a village that does not have access to electricity or running water. They are subsistence farmers and during the summer vacation, Dessa works in her family’s fields. They plant corn, peanuts, okra and sesame. Dessa knows that going to school is a privilege and she works hard in school. Her father is finding it harder and harder to be able to keep her in school. A sponsor for Dessa will ensure that she is able to stay in school.
