Beatrice

Beatrice is hoping to have a bright future. She was born in a village in West African 2008. Daily life consisted of completing many chores to assist her large family. She shared these chores with her siblings .Each one taking turns, fetching water from the closest well which was about 1-2 km from her home. This chore is the most important, most strenuous and most time-consuming task. Often there are as many as 12 people ahead of you in line to pump water and fill several 20-liter containers. Other chores included gathering firewood, washing clothes ,cooking and watching younger children. In the summer she helped work in the family fields.

Her family shared a small mud brick house. There is no access to electricity.

Beatrice was lucky that her family enrolled her in school. However, she was unable to thrive in the traditional public-school setting. Average class size is around 50- 60 students, but often class size is over 100 students. Beatrice dropped out of school after the 8th grade.

Fortunately, Beatrice has been given a second chance. In February of this year (2024), her family enrolled in a two -year program at a residential training school for girls. Each day commences with devotions and is divided into classes in sewing, weaving, gardening and animal husbandry. Her days are productive learning practical skills that will be useful in setting up her own small business after graduation. She will be given either a weaving loom or a sewing machine upon completion of the program.

Would you help Beatrice reach her dreams by becoming her sponsor?
