Bakary was born in 2009. This year (2024-2025) he is in the 8th grade. He is very happy to be going to school. Bakary's mother died from complications of the birth of his younger sibling. Bakary lives with his father and his father's other wives care for the three children. Village life is simple according to creature comforts and in many ways it is very hard. Bakary and his siblings live in a small mud brick house with a thatched roof. Depending on how well they are built, mud brick structures only last for 5 to 7 years before the hard rains and winds destroy them.

Bakary has many responsibilities at home. The main one is working in his family's fields during the summer / rainy season. One thing that boys do in the fields is to carry sling-shots to scare the birds away from the crops. He also helps to fetch water from the village well. A sponsor for this  boy will ensure that he is able to stay in school.
