Alima 2473FFNIAN21

Alima was born in 2005. She is one of 8 siblings and she is the second from the youngest. Her family lives in a small village where there is no electricity or running water. They live in a small mud-brick house and draw water from a nearby well. They are subsistence farmers who grow corn, millet, peanuts and sometimes cotton. They know that when the rains are good, they will have enough to eat for the rest of the year but when the rains are not good or when insects destroy their crops, it will be a very hard year. It is not a priority in Burkina Faso to send girls to school and Alima’s family has struggled to keep her in school. She knows that it is a privilege for her to be in school and this year (2021-2022) she is re-doing the 10th grade. A local pastor is bringing her into his home in the city so that Alima will have a better school to attend and also have a more supportive home environment for her to continue her studies. Alima hopes to complete her high school studies and then continue to university to prepare to be a teacher. A sponsor for Alima will encourage her to work hard and to reach for her dreams.
